Pledge of the Day

This is from a card I picked up from the Solano County Republican Headquarters office..

I AM A REPUBLICAN BECAUSE

I believe
that the proper function of Government is to do for the people those things that have to be done but cannot be done, or cannot be done as well, by individuals, and that the most effective government is government closest to the people

I believe that good government is based on the individual and that each person's ability, dignity, freedom, and responsibility must be honored and recognized

I believe that free enterprise and the encouragement of individual initiative and incentive have given this nation an economic system second to none

I believe that sound money management should be our goal

I believe in equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity for all regardless of race, creed, age, sex, or national origin

I believe we must retain those principles of the past worth retaining, yet always be receptive to new ideas with an outlook broad enough to accommodate thoughtful change and varying points of view

I believe that Americans value and should preserve their feeling of national strength and pride, and at the same time share with people everywhere a desire for peace and freedom and the extension of human rights throughout the world

Finally, I believe that the Republican Party is the best vehicle for translating these ideas into positive and successful principals of government

Why did NBC shoot themselves in the foot?

I'm still frustrated over Conan's leaving NBC, and I haven't the foggiest as to why Conan O'Brien and Jay Leno have turned on each other either. Neither one of them is to blame as far as I know of..it's the damn execs who bungled the time slots. I still think NBC could've done more to support both shows which reportedly had slumped in ratings in favor of David Letterman

As funny as he is

he's still a classy guy to the end, issuing this statement:

People of Earth:

In the last few days, I've been getting a lot of sympathy calls, and I want to start by making it clear that no one should waste a second feeling sorry for me. For 17 years, I've been getting paid to do what I love most and, in a world with real problems, I've been absurdly lucky. That said, I've been suddenly put in a very public predicament and my bosses are demanding an immediate decision.

Six years ago, I signed a contract with NBC to take over The Tonight Show in June of 2009. Like a lot of us, I grew up watching Johnny Carson every night and the chance to one day sit in that chair has meant everything to me. I worked long and hard to get that opportunity, passed up far more lucrative offers, and since 2004 I have spent literally hundreds of hours thinking of ways to extend the franchise long into the future. It was my mistaken belief that, like my predecessor, I would have the benefit of some time and, just as important, some degree of ratings support from the prime-time schedule. Building a lasting audience at 11:30 is impossible without both.

But sadly, we were never given that chance. After only seven months, with my Tonight Show in its infancy, NBC has decided to react to their terrible difficulties in prime-time by making a change in their long-established late night schedule.

Last Thursday, NBC executives told me they intended to move the Tonight Show to 12:05 to accommodate the Jay Leno Show at 11:35. For 60 years the Tonight Show has aired immediately following the late local news. I sincerely believe that delaying the Tonight Show into the next day to accommodate another comedy program will seriously damage what I consider to be the greatest franchise in the history of broadcasting. The Tonight Show at 12:05 simply isn't the Tonight Show. Also, if I accept this move I will be knocking the Late Night show, which I inherited from David Letterman and passed on to Jimmy Fallon, out of its long-held time slot. That would hurt the other NBC franchise that I love, and it would be unfair to Jimmy.

So it has come to this: I cannot express in words how much I enjoy hosting this program and what an enormous personal disappointment it is for me to consider losing it. My staff and I have worked unbelievably hard and we are very proud of our contribution to the legacy of The Tonight Show. But I cannot participate in what I honestly believe is its destruction. Some people will make the argument that with DVRs and the Internet a time slot doesn't matter. But with the Tonight Show, I believe nothing could matter more.

There has been speculation about my going to another network but, to set the record straight, I currently have no other offer and honestly have no idea what happens next. My hope is that NBC and I can resolve this quickly so that my staff, crew, and I can do a show we can be proud of, for a company that values our work.

Have a great day and, for the record, I am truly sorry about my hair; it's always been that way.

Yours,

Conan

tragic to see such a great guy suddenly leave a network that practically made him an NBC institution right after Leno

I also hate how people are picking sides in this. Until I hear otherwise, I don't see O'Brien or Leno as being to blame. I think I'll still watch Jay Leno, that guy's great.

All I can do is just wish Conan good luck in finding work and a new home. This has to be the biggest blunder in the history of modern TV, and in my mind, is the biggest mistake since NBC tried to grab Letterman several years ago..

defending the "no negro dialect" line?

how exactly does the DemoKKKrat party possibly defend the racist garbage spewing from Tax-and-Spend Liberal, soon to be ousted Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and then expect to warn Republicans on this matter?

Reminds me of a pair of lines from the "Sherlock Holmes" movie

Watson to Holmes: "Does your depravity know no bounds?"

Holmes: "No..."

plus even the History Channel will tell you the Klu Klux Klan was a wing of the DemoKKrat party

There can't possibly be any legitimate defense of that remark..

How to screw over your customer via a great movie

splash a special deal across the Xbox 360 dashboard

attached to a mega movie, get BestBuy involved, falsely advertise the expiration date of January 3, 2010 (as I heard)..not December 19, 2009 (the ACTUAL expiration date), have the deal run a short time (maybe 2 weeks at best), leave many customers like myself who'd doggedly researched the deal the entire month or so of December with no luck high and dry, then rake in the dough..

real nice Microsoft..Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you TOO
