Former Resident, Parks, Pursues Dream Job In Nation’s Capitol
By BRIAN GELINAS

ATHOL — Some people are lucky, and are afforded in life the chance to pursue what they would consider their “dream job.” One such person is former Athol resident Corwin Parks, who, at 19, already holds a U.S. House and Senate Press Pass and spends his days behind the camera in Washington, D.C., as part of a Capitol Hill reporting crew for Cybercast News Service, which is based in Alexandria, Va.

The position is a paid internship which, in a relatively short time (he’s been interning just over a month), has already put him on the political front lines in the nation’s capitol.

“My very first interview was with the president of the Czech Republic. The second interview that I shot was an interview with Cardinal Roger Mahony, and, to be honest, I really like this job because I get a chance to catch people [saying] some dumb things on camera — for the world to see — which Cardinal Mahony did,” Parks said in a recent interview. “What’s great about this job [too] is the amount of famous politicians that you see on a weekly basis. Given that the team that I work with and I are constantly on the Hill, I have gotten a chance to see people like John McCain, John Kerry and Joe Lieberman [and others].

“I think that one of the shoots that really stands out to me is when my colleague Nick and I went to Michael Moore’s red carpet event for ‘Capitalism, A Love Story.’ Although I don’t agree with his ideals and didn’t like his movies, I must admit I was a little star struck. While I cannot give too much away, I’ll drop two names of people that I know I will be interviewing/meeting very soon, and they are Eva Longoria, and former President Bill Clinton.”

Parks lived in Athol for about five to six years with his father Robert Parks, his older brother Rob and their stepsister Paige, and their father’s fiancee, until moving with his father to Manassas, Va., this past summer.

“Although I live in Manassas and the news company that I work for is located in Alexandria, I do most of my work in Washington, D.C., primarily in the Capitol Building,” Parks said. “That’s the cool thing about having a U.S. House and Senate Press Pass; I can go pretty much anywhere in the nation’s capitol that is restricted to the public, including some parts of the White House.”

Parks, who will turn 20 in January, said he is not currently attending college but technically would be considered a sophomore this semester if he were. “With the full time internship that pays, I figured why would I pay go to school to learn something that I am pretty much getting paid already to do professionally,” he said. “Even though it is an internship, I believe that the in-class knowledge I would receive at a college would not compare to the experiences and knowledge that I am currently receiving.”

The application process for the internship included a requirement to submit two pieces of writing, and a resume, said Parks. The two pieces of writing he provided were a somewhat controversial essay he’d written at Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner on the movie “Crash” and an essay he wrote at Athol High School on William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet.”

“After submitting those, I guess they were impressed with my writing,” said Parks. “[And] Cybercast News Services offered me a reporter position.”

Although he was offered such a position, Parks said he asked if he could instead work with the reporting team behind the camera rather than in front, as that is where his level of expertise lies. He was given his position of choice.

Parks explained that his interest in the news media developed, in part, because of his father, who, while in Athol, served on the town’s finance committee and made a run for state representative, challenging current State Rep. Christopher Donelan (D-Orange).

“Growing up, my father has been deep into politics. Whether it is running for Congress in Los Angeles or running for state representative in Athol, I’ve always been right there with him,” Parks said. “Also, my father has always been in television, so I guess you can say that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Everything that I know, he has taught me, and also with the help of Athol-Orange Television. Most people know that I have volunteered at AOTV for about 80 percent of the duration of my stay in Athol, so, because of this, my aspirations of being in television were further cemented.”

The apple doesn’t fall from the tree for Parks as far as politics are concerned either, and he doesn’t hold back on his opinions. Asked about his thoughts on the Obama presidency and working in D.C. at a pivotal moment in history, he had this to say:

“Given my ethnicity, I would suppose that the answer that would be most assumed is that I like Obama and love him as president … Personally, I don’t like the guy; I think he has this hubris that is just sickening and isn’t qualified to be this nation’s president. Also, we are in a war. No matter whose war it is — because I know how people like to say that this is Bush’s war — we are in a war nonetheless. Shouldn’t it be the job of the commander-in-chief to back the general and the troops on the front line? Isn’t it his job to at least make contact? Or should the commander-in-chief be taking vacations and trying to get the Olympics to come to Chicago?”

Parks said further, “I just don’t agree with his policies; simply, his extreme liberal views. Capitalism is out and socialism is in. I also don’t like the fact that he won the presidency because he is black rather than what he proposed to do.

“Also, I would like to know what he hopes to change. I mean, all we hear is ‘hope’ and ‘change,’ but it is never clarified what is set to change and what is of significance that we should hope for.”

Although he had the idea he would start out in the news media genre and is currently amid the political hotbed, Parks said he would, in the long term, “love to work somewhere for Fox NFL Sunday or NFL On CBS. “I mean, I do like the news media genre because you get to see first hand what is going on in politics and in our country before the media bias and spin,” he said.. “But as for a career until I eventually retire, I don’t see this genre being the ‘end all, be all’ for me.”

Parks’ interest in working in the sports field is likely fed by his love for the game of football. “I have this infatuation with the game … I played football for Athol under Rocky Stone — a great coach — where I suffered a drastic shoulder injury,” he explained. “That injury completely killed any thought of playing in college, or even professionally … When I’m not watching NFL Network, or working, I can be found writing and/or drawing.”

Commenting on his son’s foray into the field of on-line news casting and his success at being chosen for the internship, Robert said recently, “Cory has seemed to turn his life around. Once given some opportunities, he’s more than taken advantage of them and is laying the groundwork for a fine career. I don’t know how proud I am of him yet [though], because he’s doing what he should be, but if Cory continues to grow, many people in Athol might proudly say they knew him ‘when.’”

Congrats to Cory and we look forward to his ever growing career!

Hypocrite of the week

A white Louisiana justice of the peace, Keith Bardwell, for not issuing a marriage licence to an interracial couple, simply out of fear of the kids they'd have..

"I'm not a racist. I just don't believe in mixing the races that way," Bardwell told the Associated Press on Thursday. "I have piles and piles of black friends. They come to my home, I marry them, they use my bathroom. I treat them just like everyone else."

Bardwell said he asks everyone who calls about marriage if they are a mixed race couple. If they are, he does not marry them, he said.

Bardwell said he has discussed the topic with blacks and whites, along with witnessing some interracial marriages. He came to the conclusion that most of black society does not readily accept offspring of such relationships, and neither does white society, he said.

"There is a problem with both groups accepting a child from such a marriage," Bardwell said. "I think those children suffer and I won't help put them through it."

He has "piles of black fiends", but won't marry one of them to a white person out of fear..and you know what he's doing? he's essentially spitting on the

left by Dr. King. Sort of reminds me of the Canadian Broadcasting Standards Council..

apparently this "justice of the peace" has been under a rock as he must've missed the most famous interracial couple I can think of - Singer Seal & Supermodel Heidi Klum

Black Republicans hit liberals back

THE ATTACK ON RUSH LIMBAUGH - AN ANATOMY OF FABRICATED RACISM

By Frances Rice

Fear is as effective in enslaving us as iron shackles. One more nail was hammered deeply into America's freedom coffin when a group of private sector entrepreneurs were intimidated by race hustlers into ousting talk show host Rush Limbaugh from the consortium formed to buy the St. Louis Rams.

Armed with nothing more than demonstrably false charges of racism, fabricated to destroy Limbaugh, several black NFL players claimed publicly that they would never play for a team owned by Limbaugh. Into the cauldron of racial slime jumped the usual race mongering suspects, The Reverends Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton - aided by the liberal media, including CNN, MSNBC and their ilk.

The phony charge of racism is continuously used as a weapon to silence conservatives who dare stand up for our nation's traditional values and oppose the radical socialist agenda of Democrats and the Obama Administration. Limbaugh deserves our gratitude for showing no fear of the race-baiters, fighting back and helping to preserve the freedoms that have made this country great.

Why Rush Must Sue

by Bob Parks

Rush Limbaugh

Conservatives, Dittoheads in particular, make many demands of Rush Limbaugh. He’s considered a spokesman and a champion of their political philosophy, and one who articulates it to millions every day. But now that he’s been dropped by a group seeking to acquire the St. Louis Rams football team because of statements taken out of context (and in this case, simply made up), he needs to punch them all in the mouth.

li·bel
2 a : a written or oral defamatory statement or representation that conveys an unjustly unfavorable impression b (1) : a statement or representation published without just cause and tending to expose another to public contempt (2) : defamation of a person by written or representational means (3) : the publication of blasphemous, treasonable, seditious, or obscene writings or pictures (4) : the act, tort, or crime of publishing such a libel

Obviously, this is what we have here.

Whether it be football players reciting or reacting to statements made by so-called media professionals that cannot be fully attributed anywhere, Rush Limbaugh needs to take this to the next level because if the media (that berates “bloggers” for not having editors of “filters”) believes they can just pull an incendiary quote out of the air and make it stick to someone who never said it, no one is safe, especially coming from thin-skinned news anchors and pundits who believe they’re shielded from retribution simply because they are the press.

So why should Rush sue? Because he can probably prove some serious damages.

All one has to do is look at what the monetary worth of the-then St. Louis Lambs was, and contrast that with what the Rams were worth in the days when they were “The Greatest Show on Turf”. We could be talking billions of dollars in increased and higher-priced ticket sales, merchandising, television rights for local broadcasts, increased national exposure on Sunday and Monday nights.

Because Rush’s partners jettisoned him and the baggage the media thrown his way, even as a minority partner, the potential monetary losses could be huge.

With that, he’d need to go after everyone who repeated the “slavery” quote, including the man who orginally composed it, the media entities who ran it without checking it’s authenticity, the news and sports punditry who publicly reacted to (and based negative opinions on) the false quotes, the commissioner of the National Football league and Indianapolis Colts owner who publicly declared Rush Limbaugh guilty before proven innocent, and at least admonish those players (whom he had the most admiration of) who accepted that guilty charge and made their own pre-trial closing statements.

In order to clear his name, and as we’re talking the potential loss of serious millions, Rush Limbaugh could conceivably own a significant part of CNN, MSNBC, and toss a lot of irresponsible hacks out on their asses. That’s how much we could be talking about.

Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson cannot be allowed to continue dictating what good taste and permissible speech in America is. Just the fact he said he was going to talk to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell about the situation is laughable. Who is Sharpton to get an audience in the first place, just because he decided to interject himself into a manufactured controversy after the media called their favorite race-issue consultant?

And as I said earlier, if Rush doesn’t take these lying slanderers out back once and for all, they will do it again to anyone with a Republican last initial.

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalism professors (moonlighting as cable news experts) cannot be allowed to go to any old website containing a post with no attribution and use that as a basis for character assassination. Partisan pundits can’t hide behind freedom-of-the-press to repeat false quotes just because they don’t like another persons’ success at articulating an opposing point of view.

Race hustlers cannot be allowed to interject themselves into a false controversy and anoint themselves as speech arbiters, especially when they were given a pass on false comments (including ones that cost people their careers.

News anchors cannot be allowed to work on a news set after they knowingly read a false quote and their way of apologizing is to ring up other quotes out of context. The very football players, who claim to be this potential victim of a Rush Limbaugh, can’t just go to the media and repeat false quotes because of what could’ve been.

The media also has to believe in fairness and equality.

Should any media personality decide to go back and create a story based on fabrications, they should also be worried about their own skeletons, right Mr. Sanchez? They are the first to get all bent when they receive criticism for malicious damage of someone else’s reputation. They’re always too good to apologize; it’s beneath them.

Now’s the time for them to find out what it’s like to have your life destroyed. It’s time for the message to be sent that the arena of ideas is just that. Should they decide to play loose with the rules, they must suffer the same consequences as the dozens of others they’ve had their way with.

Rush Limbaugh has an obligation, not only to us but himself, to sue everybody involved in this sham.

Bob fires another excellent shot

One of my favorite conservative columnists, Bob Parks , just wrote another killer piece, putting racist bitch, Janeane Garofalo, squarely in her place.

It always amazes me that somehow "PC" leftist elites could pull off talking down to us "right wing extremists" as they happily label us..they must have an infinite supply of arrogance and ignorance on hand in order to pull that off. Bob, being the retired navy guy that he is, knows a thing or 2 about firing off a well-aimed shot, and he's done it again with another shot across the bow to the left.

Janeane Garofalo And The Hollywood White Power Movement

by

Bob Parks

Janeane Garofalo should be the last person to be denigrating anyone. She tries to come off as this pseudo-intellectual, probably one who mocked President Bush’s mangled pronunciation of the word “nuclear”, while still mispronouncing “Rush Limbow” herself.

Her latest mission is to defend someone she clearly deems an inferior (despite the obvious power of his office), Barack Obama.

It’s obvious to anybody who has eyes in this country that tea-baggers, the 9-12ers, these separatist groups that pretend that it’s about policy – they are clearly white-identity movements. They’re clearly white power movements. What they don’t like about the President is that he’s black – or half black (applause) – and they, what also is shocking is that people keep pretending that that’s not really the case with these people.

What’s clearly not obvious to anybody who has eyes in this country is that Garofalo lives (when it comes to racists) in a very big glass house.

Let me tell you a little story.

A few years ago while networking in Los Angeles, I met a black man who worked at an industry post production facility in Hollywood. On an almost daily basis, he found racist pictures taped to the door of his work area. He didn’t know who the person was who left those pictures, but it was clear he was annoyed by the fact that any one of the co-workers he associated with who smiled to his face, could have been the person who looked at him with hate.

His problem was this: he could make a complaint with management. Under normal circumstances, that’s all it would take to get to the bottom of this. But we’re talking Hollywood.

Whomever it was leaving those pictures had no fear of being caught or of retribution. The act so dictates. Had this black man had the “wrong person” reprimanded or fired, that’s where the fun begins in Hollywood. The person issuing the complaint would be gray-listed. From then on, any place he sought work would know in advance he could be a “problem”, and he’d probably not get the job. Thus you have an atmosphere where racist and sexist behavior occurs frequently, as the victim stands more to lose than the asshole harasser.

Hollywood racism is as blatant as that on the inside.

A couple of quick examples come to mind.

When black O.J. Simpson was accused of killing his wife, white Hollywood shunned him. When white Roman Polanski was found guilty of drugging, raping, and sodomizing a little girl, white Hollywood circled the wagons.

Notice how two of the more recent widely successful shows were all white, Janeane? None of the “Friends” were black, and Seinfeld’s lead ensemble were as well. Black people get “Cribs” and can pimp rides. “Laguna Beach” rich kids are worth watching, a reality show in The Hood may be too much information, and who would even think of green-lighting anything involving a no-talent, black-Paris Hilton-type. (There are black “princesses” in Hollywood.)

During the presidential campaign, Hollywood did everything possible to show solidarity behind Barack Obama. During his college years, I doubt few in the industry would allow their daughter to date someone with his tint and odd-sounding name, but as he could potentially have more power than them, industry elites had to temporarily shelve they’re superiority complexes and closet intolerance to support the black guy. Their publicists also liked and could work with that.

For years now I contend that white liberals consider black people their pets, and Janeane Garofalo is no different. But using race as the basis for her argument, especially being a “comedian” who based on her body of work would stay unemployed if she were black, is clearly being done for her own sense of relevance.

Oh, and besides looking at black people as pets, liberals love to use them as well, as reflected with the many actresses who just have to adopt a minority baby as an I’m-better-than-you accessory.

Would white Hollywood EVER show constant depictions of their children as gangsta’ thugs and their women as hos? We always hear different liberal groups get all bent over Playmates or Hooter girls, but when was the last time an industry bigwig ever condemned the slutting of black women in entertainment? I’ve mentioned before the Hollywood exec preference for light-skinned black women, as they’re the ones who get most of the gigs. But has Janeane Garofalo ever asked why black people are presented to the world in such a demeaning way?

Probably not, because that’s probably how she sees blacks. Now that an Affirmative Action candidate has gotten the top job, she sees any resistance to Barack Obama as an opportunity to rescue and take him to a shelter for mistreated animals.

Like most liberals, she is gutless and seldom (I can’t think of a recent exception) goes on a venue with equal sides of a debate and participate. She prefers shows like Bill Maher and Keith Olbermann where she can spew unchallenged.

She calls tea party protesters racist teabaggers. If that’s the case, Janeane Garofalo is a Hollywood racist. While the 9/12 crowd protests the president, many liberals in Hollywood still have no problem in harassing and denigrating black people, and do so with impunity.

When she says, “Fox News is happy to feed into this; AM radio is happy to feed into this,” including “this tacit nudging towards violence”, Hollywood enables and promotes racism and Garofalo by not speaking out, must be happy to feed into this. Hollywood magnifies the worse in minorities, claim that they’re keeping it real, and for that reason, Marlon Brando was right when he inadvertently hit liberal Hollywood right between the eyes. I would just substitute the word “Jews” with liberals.

Hollywood is run by liberals. It is owned by liberals, and they should have a greater sensitivity. They should have greater sensitivity about the issue of people who are suffering because they’ve (been) exploited. We have seen the nigger, we’ve seen the greaseball, we have seen the chink, the slit-eyed dangerous Jap. We have seen the wily Filipino. We’ve seen everything, but we never saw the ultra-liberal, because they know perfectly well that is where you draw the wagons around.

Janeane Garofalo, in that quest for relevance, is exploiting Barack Obama, and as she’s using race as her basis, is a racist herself. Once she addresses the racist cesspool she freely associates with, she has no business calling any law-abiding, citizen who wishes to protest the direction a president is taking the country, something she clearly is herself.

Tragic death

No,...not of a well known celebrity...of a regular British woman - 26 year old Kerrie Wooltorton.

Definitely a first of it's kind of case. After seeing her photo and reading the story about the tragic death of this gorgeous woman and her "living will", lamenting of being infertile, I can't help but look into her beautiful eyes and think of her weeping that she couldn't bear a child. Apparently the doctors that dealt with her after she intentionally poisoned herself with antifreeze, because of her depression regarding infertility, felt their hands were tied because she wrote a competent statement of her last wishes, not wanting to be saved.

I get to wondering if she'd ever considered adoption like so many people in the world do for many reasons. Couldn't that have brought her happiness?

This one definitely tugged on the heart strings. I don't have any direct experience with suicide in my family, but I definitely feel for the family of this young woman who was a little older than I am, and in the prime of her life

I just hope her soul finds peace..

Suicide was not the answer

Sign of the day

The immediate knee-jerk reaction to Liberal opposition of one their own in office who isn't caucasian is normally deemed "racist"..so here is the perfect sign to exploit that fact

Just who is responsible for racism in America though?

Celebrating communism.......WHAT?!

I too am incredibly outraged about the celebration of Communism and totalitarianism in NYC.

Being that even commie bastard fat-head Michael Moore

says we need to "socialize" healthcare..Moore couldn't be more WRONG. I'm sure he loved the site of the Red & Yellow Empire State building though, like a good little "tolerant" liberal

Needless to say, this was a joke and a blatant slap in the face of America. I can understand when the colors change for things like St. Patrick's Day, or celebrating Japan, I have no problem with that. Ireland and Japan are our allies. When you put the colors of a communist country however...the thick stench of liberalism is in the air..
